Where should I have my ethereum during the Constantinople hard fork?

I have some Ethereum on coinbase. Is this a similar situation to bitcoin's earlier forks into Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold where there will potentially be two different chains and I can have my ethereum value multiplied?

It seems like if you had bitcoin on coinbase during the BCH fork you eventually got the BCH but you didn't get the Bitcoin gold fork?

Should I move my ethereum to a wallet whose private keys I control (aside from the general crypto advice to always do this)? Will that confer any benefits during this fork vs keeping on an exchange? Basically I just don't want to miss out on any free coins I could get.
